Santosh Kashyap, the 58-year-old coach from Delhi who is a known name in the Indian football circuit, is set to take over as the head coach of the Indian Women’s team.
All India Football Federation were on the lookout for a head coach to take over the reins of the women’s national team. As per our sources, we can confirm that four people were shortlisted before Santosh Kashyap was finalised in the technical committee meeting held during the weekend.
The former Mohun Bagan and Aizawl FC coach will take over the 68th-ranked national team, from former coach Chaoba Devi. Ever since the AIFF parted ways from Thomas Dennerby they have been looking for a proper coach to take control of the women’s national team. Chaoba had took over the reins post Thomas Dennerby’s exit. Chaoba had faced criticisms during her two window drew criticism from the Technical Committee due to the failure of providing results.
Furthermore, Field Vision can also confirm that Santosh Kashyap will have former GKFC women’s coach as hisPriya PV as his assistant in the national team.
Santosh Kashyap’s coaching career started with Air India in 2010 and has seen him manage clubs like Air India, Mohun Bagan, ONGC, Rangdajied United, Royal Wahingdoh, Salgaocar, Mumbai FC, and Aizawl FC. Santosh Kashyap has experience in the ISL as an assistant coach for NorthEast United FC and Odisha FC.
His best tenure as a coach was with Royal Wahingdoh when he led the Shillong club to a top-three finish in the I-League. It was also under his guidance that the likes of Jackichand Singh, and Seityasen Singh became household names in the Indian football circuit.
The AIFF will hope that Santosh Kashyap can replicate his Royal Wahingdoh magic with the senior national women’s team. This is also Santosh Kashyap’s first coaching role with the national set-up in any capacity.
The women’s national team are likely to have a camp in Goa starting next weekend, and this will give Santosh Kashyap a fair idea of what is in store for him.
The women’s national team boasts of stars like Manisha Kalyan, Bala Devi, Jyoti Chauhan, and Panthoi Chanu players who have experience playing their club football abroad. The national team had a poor tour of Myanmar where they lost one game and drew one.
