Liverpool got their revenge after losing to Wolves in the EPL on Tuesday, beating them 3-1 in the FA Cup three days later. Goals from Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and Curtis Zones for Liverpool. Wolves got a consolation goal from Hee Chan Hwang.

Tactical summary:-
Liverpool tactician Arne Slot set up his side in his preferred 4-3-3 formation, with Dutchman Cody Gakpo leading the line. He was flanked by the clinical Mohamed Salah and the exciting young talent Rio Ngumoha, who was handed his first-ever start in the senior XI today.

Liverpool dominated proceedings right from the whistle. Early on, Gakpo saw his header rattle the crossbar, though the effort was eventually ruled out for offside. Just four minutes later, in the 10th minute, Gakpo turned provider with a delicate pass that found Ngumoha. The youngster showcased his skill by dribbling past his marker, but unfortunately, his effort in a 1-on-1 situation was saved by the goalkeeper.

As the match progressed, the Merseyside club intensified their pressure and dictated the tempo. However, despite carving out several clear-cut chances and coming agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock, Liverpool failed to find the back of the net in a frustrating first half.

Finally, at the start of the second half, Liverpool’s long-standing hero Andy Robertson broke the deadlock. In the 51st minute, he put the Reds ahead with a spectacular long-range strike from outside the box. Before Wolves could even regroup from the opener, they conceded a second goal, with Robertson once again playing a pivotal role.

His perfectly weighted low-driven cross found the Reds’ superstar Mo Salah, who made no mistake with the finish. Although the goal was initially flagged for offside, it was eventually awarded after a VAR review, putting Liverpool 2-0 up in a matter of minutes.

From that point on, Wolves struggled to find a way back into the match. In the 72nd minute, Curtis Jones added a third goal, effectively hammering the final nail in the coffin for the hosts. While Wolves’ Hee-Chan Hwang managed to pull one back in the dying moments of the game, it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal as Liverpool secured a commanding victory.

Epic comeback of Andy Robertson:

It had been a while since fans witnessed Andy Robertson in such clinical form. With a goal and an assist to his name, he was rightfully named Player of the Match. Speaking to the media after the game, the Scottish left-back expressed his delight:

“I couldn’t have hit it much better, no. It’s quite rare, but it opened up and thankfully I hit it clean — most of them usually go over the bar. I’m glad I managed to get one in the net. That was a bit more like it. We know we let ourselves down on Tuesday… The FA Cup is do-or-die, you’re in or you’re out, and thankfully we’re in the quarter-finals.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was also full of praise for his veteran defender. “Robbo has, in the one-and-a-half years I’ve been here, given everything for the club,” Slot remarked. “He tries to give his best—defending well, staying calm with a lot of composure on the ball. He loves the club and he loves to play in front of these fans.”

Next challenge is big one in UCL:

Liverpool’s attention now turns to their high-stakes Champions League away fixture against Galatasaray. This victory provides a massive morale boost for Arne Slot, especially seeing two of his most crucial players return to peak form just in time for the European stage.

On the other hand, with their FA Cup journey coming to an end, Wolves must now shift their entire focus to the Premier League. Currently languishing at the bottom of the table and stuck in the relegation zone, coach Rob Edwards faces the uphill task of securing survival. Their next match against Brentford is being viewed as a “cup final” in their bid to stay in the top flight.
