In an unexpected turn of events, Mushaga Bakenga, the prolific Norwegian striker, has decided to hang up his boots, ending a professional football career. Currently with Punjab FC, Bakenga’s decision comes just four months after joining the club during the summer transfer window.
A source close to the development confirmed the news, stating, “Mushaga Bakenga will retire effective immediately due to personal reasons and the decision will be made public in due course. ”
Ever since his joining he has scored 2 goals for the Shers in the Durand Cup while notching up a solitary goal in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Punjab FC have announced the departure of Mushaga Bakenga which reads as below:
“Punjab FC has announced that the club has parted way with striker Mushaga Bakenga by mutual consent. The Norwegian was signed by The Shers at the start of the season and made 14 appearances for the club across the Indian Super League and the Durand Cup. He scored three goals and provided one assist during his time with the club.
Speaking on the development, Technical Director of Punjab FC, Nikolaos Topoliatis said, “After mutual discussions, it was decided that Bakenga would part ways with us. I truly appreciate his contributions during his time here and wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.”
Bakenga’s last appearance for Punjab FC was as a substitute in the Indian Super League against East Bengal FC. “
