Chennai Super Champs annihilated Mumbai Pickle Power by 4-1 in their World Pickleball League (WPBL) fixture tonight, thus securing their spot at the top of the points result, courtesy of their consecutive wins in the second season of the competition.

The Samantha Ruth Prabhu-owned team have thus bagged consecutive victories and established themselves at the top of the points table to mark a commendable commencement to the second campaign of the competition. 

The clash began in a gripping manner, with Domenika Turkovic edging past Jada Bui by 15-13 in the opening women’s singles game. Brandon Lane and Glauka Carvajal Lane bounced back to notch a 17-10 win in the mixed doubles match, though. 

However, what ensued from there onwards was a delight for the fans of the Super Champs. They brought home three straight triumphs, starting off with Ly Hoang Nam, former Wimbledon boys’ champion from 2015, triumphing over Max Green by 28-7 in men’s singles. 

Ly provided a total testament to his credentials, having once won the prestigious tennis Grand Slam while partnering India’s Sumit Nagal, as he soaked in the support of the home fans and get his side 2-1 ahead in the scope of things. 

Turkovic and Carlota Tervino defeated Glauka and Helen To by 12-4, which further strengthened Chennai’s firm stronghold over the proceedings. 

Finally, Do Minh Quan alongside fan favourite Tanner Tomassi smashed home a 19-4 result against Santhosh Narayanan and Tejas Mahajan, ensuring a near-perfect outing for the Chennai Super Champs. 

What’s next for both teams?

Chennai Super Champs are poised to now face the Rajasthan Titans on January 30, whereas Mumbai Pickle Power will be locking horns with the Bengaluru Jawans on January 31.
