For years, Mohamed Salah and Liverpool FC were two sides of the same coin—inseparable and synonymous with success. For the Anfield faithful, Salah’s presence on the pitch was a guarantee of hope; a belief that at any given moment, he could change the complexion of a match with a single touch. However, starting next season, the Kop will have to face a reality they never wished to imagine.
Last Tuesday, the announcement of Mohamed Salah’s departure sent shockwaves through social media, marking the end of a Golden Era. The Egyptian superstar was the very heartbeat of Liverpool. When Salah flourished, Liverpool conquered. Over the past nine years, he elevated the club to unprecedented heights, securing eight major trophies, including the coveted Champions League, two Premier League titles, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Notably, he was the catalyst who ended Liverpool’s 30-year agonizing wait for a league title.
Beyond the silverware, Salah was the crown jewel of Jürgen Klopp’s revolutionary era. Alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, he formed one of the most lethal attacking trios in football history.

The Arrival at Anfield
It is almost poetic to look back at 2016, a year Salah might describe as a nightmare. His stint at Chelsea saw him score just twice, leading many to write him off. Yet, in a twist of fate, he returned to England a year later from Roma to become a legend for Chelsea’s fiercest rivals. Since 2017, he has rained goals upon the Anfield turf, becoming the third-highest goalscorer in the club’s history, trailing only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. With 255 goals in 435 appearances, his legacy is etched in stone.
A four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner and a three-time PFA Player of the Year (2018, 2022, 2025), Salah’s impact was immeasurable. In a deeply emotional farewell video, he shared:
“Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. We celebrated victory, won the most important trophies, and fought together through the hardest times.”
Even after Klopp’s departure, Salah remained the pillar of strength for new manager Arne Slot. Last season, he topped the charts for goal contributions, leading Liverpool to another title and earning a two-year contract extension in April.

All Good Things Come to an End
However, this current season has been a shadow of his usual brilliance. With only five goals so far and a visible “cold war” with Slot, many believe the tactical friction played a role in his decision to move on. Despite the dip in form, the Egyptian King remains determined to finish his journey regally. With a Champions League quarter-final against PSG and an FA Cup clash with Manchester City on the horizon, he wants his final footsteps at Anfield to be legendary.
His teammate Andy Robertson paid tribute on Instagram, writing: “It has been a joy to watch and be part of Salah’s career at Anfield.” While rumours link him to the Saudi Pro League, Salah remains undecided about his next destination. But before the final whistle blows on his Liverpool career, one thing is certain: the fans will ensure their hero receives the most emotional and grandest of farewells.
