Shers missed out on the playoff spot in their debut ISL campaign.
Indian Super League (ISL) side Punjab FC is set to confirm Dafa ews as its official shirt sponsor for the upcoming 2024-25 season, Indian Football Casuals can exclusively confirm.
The news website will replace RoundGlass as the club’s previous shirt sponsor, marking an important step as Punjab FC prepares for their second ISL campaign.
A source close to the development shared insights into the sponsorship deal to IFC, stating, “Punjab FC will have a new shirt sponsor this season. Last year, the club advertised the branding of the parent company RoundGlass on their shirt, but this year they have tied up with DafaNews. The club will wear the jersey with new sponsors in their first game away against Kerala Blasters.”
Surrogate betting brands sponsoring a sports team is not new as many Indian Super League sides in the past were supported by the brands involved in the legal betting business.
With that being said, after a promising start last year, the Shers narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, prompting the club to adopt a rebuilding approach. With the departure of coach Staikos Vergetis, who led the team during its inaugural ISL season, Punjab FC have now entrusted Greek tactician Panagiotis Dilmperis to guide them in their quest for ISL glory.
The team have also seen a major overhaul in its squad, with the management investing heavily to strengthen the lineup. The club has signed 9 new players in the summer transfer window and given contract extensions to six players who were part of the campaign under Staikos Vergetis.
The Shers’ recent performance in the Durand Cup was commendable, as they reached the quarter-finals but were edged out by the eventual finalists, Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Punjab FC will set their sights for a playoff spot this season after having missed by a narrow margin in the last campaign.
