Gokulam Kerala FC (GKFC) has emphatically started their season by winning the prestigious Climate Cup 2024, securing a resounding 4-0 victory over J&K Bank in the final held at Spituk Leh Stadium. The tournament, which took place over 11,000 feet above sea level, is a testament to the team’s strength, determination, and resilience.
The Malabarians opened the scoring early in the 23rd minute, thanks to a thunderous strike from defender Mashoor, setting the tone for the match. GKFC doubled their lead in the 34th minute after an own goal from J&K Bank. The halftime score stood at 2-0 in favour of GKFC.
The second half saw GKFC continue their dominance, with Tharpuia finishing beautifully in the 46th minute to make it 3-0. The final blow came in the 87th minute when Vasim launched a stunning long-range goal, sealing the 4-0 victory.
This victory in such extreme conditions, 11,000 feet above sea level, holds even greater significance for Gokulam Kerala FC. The team overcame altitude challenges to claim their first-ever Climate Cup title.
The tournament, which began on September 1st, saw GKFC dominate from the start. They opened with an 8-1 thrashing of Skalzangling FC, followed by a 2-0 win against J&K Bank in the group stage. In the semifinals, GKFC edged out 1 Ladakh FC with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory.
Mashoor, who played a pivotal role in the final, not only opened the scoring but was also awarded the Player of the Match for his commanding performance throughout the game. With this victory, Gokulam Kerala FC has set the stage for a promising season ahead, adding another trophy to their growing collection.
