Sreenidi Deccan FC today concluded the first edition of the SDFC Blue Cubs Championship 2024-25, organized in accordance with the All India Football Federation’s Blue Cubs initiative. Mr. G. P. Palguna, Secretary of the Telangana Football Association, graced the closing ceremony of the tournament on Sunday as the chief guest of the event. The six-month-long league kicked off on November 9, 2024, and saw a staggering participation of more than 370 children over the course of the tournament.
The tournament, which was organized to provide early exposure and more playing time to budding footballers in Hyderabad, was held across three age groups – Under-7, Under-9, and Under-11. A total of 32 teams across the three age categories played 195 matches over the six months of the tournament, which was held at the premises of Sreenidhi International School.
Chief Guest of the closing ceremony, G. P. Palguna spoke highly of the SDFC Blue Cubs Championship and said, “We are truly delighted to see Sreenidhi consistently leading the way by successfully conducting the Golden Baby League, now known as the Blue Cubs, for five consecutive years. The growth and enthusiasm at the grassroots level through this program have been remarkable. Conducting Blue Cubs matches every weekend over six months has provided young players with invaluable exposure and experience.”
“It is heartening to witness the tremendous development of football from the grassroots, and the positive impact it is having on the future of the game. We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Sreenidi Deccan FC for their outstanding commitment to nurturing young talent and elevating football to such impressive heights. May their journey of excellence continue to inspire many more,” he further added.
Speaking about the success of the tournament, Fabio Ferreira, Chief Football Officer of Sreenidi Deccan FC, said, “We are really happy to have executed this Blue Cubs initiative of the AIFF here in Hyderabad in such a grand manner. We are thankful to the parents for putting their trust in us and bringing their children to play and enjoy the game of football at an early age.”
“This is part of our vision and mission at Sreenidhi — to develop the football culture and identify talent who can represent Hyderabad, represent SDFC, and eventually represent the Indian National Team at the top level. This is the future of football in Hyderabad and India, where, like in this tournament, we can see parents, uncles, aunts, and grandparents showing their support and enthusiasm for children’s football, building a culture of football for all to enjoy,” he further added.
