We can’t really talk about the experience of winning their first UEFA Champions League trophy, but when you look at one of the finest players this season, Ousmane Dembele, it seems like the celebration was just getting started.

There is no better method to defeat a defensive-minded Inter Milan team by a score of 5-0 than this. Who would have guessed the score would have been that lopsided? Of course we didn’t!

PSG has a history of getting off to a fast start in the Champions League this season, and Luis Enrique’s club did the same in the final, leading 2-0 after 20 minutes due to goals from Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue. For the French champs, this was essentially business as usual in a time when showcase events can be cold, antiseptic affairs.

Inter, to their credit, got better after halftime, but Doue’s second goal of the night, following some excellent work from Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha, clinched the victory just after the hour. Senny Mayulu and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s additional goals were just the cherry on top of an already outstanding cake. In a Champions League final, their five-goal victory margin is the most ever.

Federico Dimarco’s deep position undoubtedly enabled PSG’s opening goal, which was as beautiful as it was. Dimarco’s choice to drop behind his own defensive line was crucial since it put Doue onside and allowed his own defenders to open up.

Modern football has a propensity of damning players for any error. In particular, when they are made during the finals.

The game is huge clicks, big responses, and large social media cash. However, it’s important to keep in mind how quickly the game moves at this level and how little time Dimarco has to decide. Doesn’t he deserve some sympathy?

Additionally, keep in mind that it is extremely human to make a cautious move in the first few minutes of a Champions League final against a side with a lot of attacking strength that can move the ball rapidly and covertly. This is a normal act of self-preservation. The greatest teams in the world have choked in the Champions League final, though, unable to cope with the intense pressure of taking home the championship. Inter was once again a victim of it.

It was a very emotional night for the Parisian manager Luis Enrique who lost his daughter six years ago due to bone cancer. He did, however, demonstrate to the world that he was not travelling alone on this wonderful adventure, but that his daughter Xana was supporting him and helping him navigate the storm. Being the finest team in Europe is a gift that Luis Enrique acquired by believing and waiting.

Inspired by the iconic photo of the two during the 2015 Champions League final, in which she(Xana) planted a Barcelona flag in the Berlin grass, the 55-year-old wore a T-shirt in homage of Xana during his team’s post-game celebrations, while fans unfurled a tifo in her name.

By the end of April, Inter was headed for a triple crown. They hesitantly thought they should take advantage of the chance to emulate the immortals of 2010.

Ultimately, unless the Club World Cup is taken into consideration, Inter ended the season without a win.

An weary crew is unlikely to be willing to do it. The average age of this Inter team and the necessity for the team to rejuvenate over the summer have been discussed extensively.

President Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, the sports director, will be in charge of that process. This week, they will meet with head coach Simone Inzaghi to talk about his future. It was difficult to accept losing the Scudetto on the last day. However, if they had won the Champions League, the one prize this group of players is missing, the agony would have been lessened.

It will take a while to recover from this campaign’s sad ending. These athletes will carry it with them throughout their careers.

After trailing by just 16 minutes throughout the tournament prior to the final, Inzaghi’s team was not used to chasing games and had to overcommit in an attempt to tie the score. That made it possible for PSG to start a fast break right before the 20-minute mark, which ended with a deflected finish from Doue.

PSG has gotten off to a fast start in Champions League season, and tonight’s explosive start was crucial to winning their first-ever championship.
