Hyderabad, August 2, 2025 — In a historic moment for Indian football, Hyderabad became home to the country’s first-ever FIFA Talent Academy for girls, marking a significant stride toward gender-inclusive grassroots football development. The launch was formalized through a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Government of Telangana at the inaugural Telangana Sports Conclave, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

Gracing the occasion were Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri A Revanth Reddy, AIFF President Shri Kalyan Chaubey, and Principal Secretary (I&C and IT), Government of Telangana, Shri Jayesh Ranjan, alongside a host of dignitaries, policymakers, and sporting leaders.
The academy, which is the second FIFA-recognized Talent Academy in India and the first exclusively for girls, will be housed at the Gachibowli Stadium Complex. The high-performance, year-round residential facility will cater to 60 elite youth players – 30 girls (U16) and 30 boys (U14) – scouted from across the country, including a representation of 10 boys and 10 girls from Telangana.
A National Milestone for Women’s Football
Speaking at the launch, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey hailed the occasion as a turning point in India’s footballing journey:
“The launch of India’s first FIFA Talent Academy for girls and the second academy for boys marks a defining moment in our journey towards equitable football development. This collaboration with the Government of Telangana under FIFA’s global Talent Development Scheme reflects our collective resolve to identify, nurture, and empower young talent — especially girls — from across the nation. This academy will not only groom elite athletes but also inspire a generation of footballers who can dream of representing India at the highest levels.”
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy echoed the sentiment, highlighting Telangana’s commitment to nurturing sports talent:
“This academy is a game-changer for girls in football. It is not only the first of its kind in India but also one of the very few globally under FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme. Young talents — especially girls — from Telangana and beyond will now have access to elite infrastructure, education, and a clear pathway to the national and international stage.”
A Collaborative Effort with a Long-Term Vision
The academy is a part of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), aimed at ensuring that every talented footballer globally is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Operations and training will be led by AIFF, with technical support and curriculum designed in alignment with FIFA standards. The Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) will manage infrastructure, residential logistics, and holistic welfare services, including education, healthcare, nutrition, and mental well-being.
This initiative stands at the intersection of three major frameworks:
- FIFA TDS: “Give every talent a chance”
- AIFF Vision 2047: A roadmap to transform India into a leading football nation
- Telangana Sports Policy 2025: Positioning Hyderabad as a premier national sports hub
The Hyderabad FIFA Talent Academy is more than just a sports facility — it is a visionary step forward for Indian football and a bold commitment to inclusivity, excellence, and opportunity at the grassroots level.
